Who are we?
(version française) Maxmaber Orkestar, from Italy, Croatia and Bosnia Herzegovina, was created in 2003 in Trieste, a city which is recognized for its people and culture (a natural gateway between East and West). The Maxmaber project embraces musicians that look at the ‘musica da strada’ (street music) as a model for musical and artistic research. A model of expression to break onto the streets and any kind of celebrations, from weddings, festivals etc.. ‘Musica da Strada’ is acoustic music made up of a selection of instruments and voices.
The musical instruments are varied from accordium, sax sopran, acoustic guitar. cajon, violin, contrabbasso and voice. When playing in the streets and square the band involve and entice passers by and take the audience through a journey of Mediterranean and East European popular traditional music. The klezmer of yddish culture, Roma and Balcanic music, the Bosnian sevdalinke and the Macedonian songs. Music from Greece, South Italy and Maghreb. The Music brings happiness and melancholy together, where a celebration or a festival is the expression of a need for exchange and knowledge. This is the music for travelling souls…..
Maxmaber Orkestar have participated in the main festivals as street artists. They performed at the Klezmer Festival in Ancona, Folkest, Venice Carnival and many other events of this kind. They travel through Italy from Piedmont to Sicily and Friuli to Salento, playing in squares, and streets.
A number of tournée in Bosnia Erzegovina and the participation in the international festival of Goražde and the Kid’s Festival of Sarajevo have been the beginning of various cultural projects.
In 2003 "Fuori dal Bordo" (Beyond the edge), a musical tragicomic play about childhood and nursery school, the first ‘total institution’ was produced and performed.
In 2005 the first CD "Ancheniente!" was produced. The CD encompassed traditional songs and original compositions. The CD is characterized by a strong element of improvisation and an unknown usage of Triestino dialect.
in 2007 the second CD "Ajde Jano!".
In a world dominated by the standardized music of the commercial rock and pop and the monotonous 4/4, Maxmaber Orkestar takes you into a universe of unusual rhythms, 7/8, 9/8, 11/8, which include ancient music and incredible dances.
